Healthcare, IT, construction… choosing a career path is difficult. You have certain talents and skills you want to put to use. Your contribution to society is important. We shape and change it together. But what is “society” really?

Debate in the city
Debate in the city is an interactive educational program specially developed for secondary vocational education. Students learn about the colorful history of Amsterdam, but also about the various narratives from today. Together with committed and experienced museum docents, we explore social and economic topics. For example, what is the relationship between the legacy of slavery and Black Lives Matter? Who are our new heroes? Can you keep living in your own neighborhood if affordable housing is taken over by expensive owner-occupied homes?
Students are challenged to think critically, to form their own opinion, and to discuss socially relevant topics in daily practice. The learning program consists of an introductory lesson in the classroom with a rap, poetry, or discussion workshop. The guided tour of the Amsterdam Museum lasts 45 minutes and concludes with a discussion and talk. The program lasts 1.5 hours in total. The tour can be booked separately without purchasing the entire lesson package.
