A focus on Moluccan-Amsterdam history

This summer, the Amsterdam Museum and the National Slavery Museum are bringing the stories of Amsterdam’s Moluccans into the public sphere. To mark the commemorative year ‘75 Years of Moluccans in Amsterdam’, the museums, in collaboration with the City of Amsterdam, are opening a free outdoor exhibition.

Samangat! Moluccans in Amsterdam

This exhibition tells the stories of Moluccan Amsterdammers, 75 years after their arrival in the Netherlands. Through interviews by guestcurator Huib Akihary and portraits by Eva van Kesteren, it shows a mutual history, rooted in a colonial past, lives on in Amsterdam today.
