On October 30, during a special evening as part of the exhibition Refresh Amsterdam #3, Raquel van Haver was appointed Knight in the Order of the Netherlands Lion. She received this award for her impressive work, which is of great importance to society.

Van Haver received the award from the mayor of Amsterdam, Femke Halsema. She called the artist "a bridge between cultures, generations, and continents, between the studios of Southeast Amsterdam and the markets of Bogota. Between the energy of the street and the silence of the museum. (...) Her art extends beyond the canvas and beyond the walls of museums. It reaches our society.'

Raquel van Haver was presented with the medal among her own work in the Amsterdam Museum. Six large, vibrant works are a central part of the exhibition Refresh Amsterdam #3: Imagine the Future. Van Haver chose to depict groups of people who mean a lot to Amsterdam today and tomorrow. The Collateral Kin forms the first chapter of Refresh Amsterdam #3.

The exhibition, including Van Haver's work, is on display until November 30.
