Amsterdam is always on the move. Our diverse, dynamic, and unique city is constantly changing, and Amsterdammers face major challenges such as the climate crisis, inequality, tourism, the housing shortage, and well-being. Young and new Amsterdammers are expected to engage with these challenges as they discover and develop themselves within this metropolitan context.
Through its educational programming, the Amsterdam Museum aims to encourage all Amsterdammers—across all city districts, educational backgrounds, and communities—to reflect on their role as residents of Amsterdam. We approach this from diverse perspectives and build on the unique potential of students to form ideas about the future of Amsterdam and its residents. Everyone deserves to be heard and/or seen at the Amsterdam Museum—both in relation to the city itself and to the histories of Amsterdam. Our educational offerings are based on our principle of co-creation: as experts by experience, students contribute to the stories and the collection of Amsterdam.
Within the school curriculum, our educational programming addresses themes such as the history of slavery, decolonial thinking, climate justice, seventeenth-century history, and the domains of art & culture and citizenship. Check out our diverse educational offerings to see which programs we currently provide.
