"Their portraits have never been captured before"
In this triptych, Iris Kensmil paints three 18th-century people who played important roles in Surinamese history. Their portraits have never been recorded before, nor are their stories included in official history books.

From left to right we see Elisabeth Samson, Wilhelmina van Kelderman and Fabi Labi Dikan. With this work, Kensmil commemorates their struggle for equal rights in Suriname. She gives them a face. Slide through the slides for a more detailed biography.
