Stories are at the heart of the Amsterdam Museum

On this page, we collect and share stories from Amsterdammers of the past, present, and future. Sometimes these are personal memories, sometimes dreams and wishes, and sometimes new perspectives on familiar histories. Together, they show just how multifaceted, powerful, and ever-changing the city is.

In projects like Women of Amsterdam, people pay tribute to the women who have shaped their lives. In Refresh #3 – Imagine the Future, the public shares their hopes for the city’s future. Collecting the City lets residents contribute their own experiences and perspectives on Amsterdam today, and in Het Geheugen van Amsterdam (The Memory of Amsterdam), we preserve stories that show how people have built, experienced, and transformed the city.

In this way, a living archive of voices is growing here, together telling the story of Amsterdam.
