
Javier Gimeno Martinez is a design historian and Associate Professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He developed the Master’s programme Design Cultures and is actively involved in several research schools and professional networks, including NICA and CLUE+. He serves on the boards of the Design History Foundation and the International Committee for Design History and Design Studies, and has been a member of the advisory boards of the Ghent Design Museum and the Flemish Architecture Institute. Additionally, he is on the editorial board of Tijdschrift voor Interieurgeschiedenis en Design and previously served on the editorial board of the Journal of Design History.
Gimeno Martinez has held visiting positions at the Royal College of Art in London (2009–2010) and the Theorizing Visual Art and Design (TVAD) research group at the University of Hertfordshire (2014–2015). He has also served as an advisor for funding bodies such as the FWO, NWO, and for publishers including Sage and Bloomsbury Academic.
