Wigbertson Julian Isenia (they/e) is a cultural studies scholar from Curaçao and assistant professor of anthropology at the University of Amsterdam. Their research examines race, gender, and sexuality in the Caribbean and its diaspora. They are completing MARIKU!, a book on archives, performance, and language politics. Mariku names a Curaçaoan figure and method for reading gender, coloniality, and sovereignty through multilingual practice and performance. Their work appears in Small Axe and Feminist Review, and includes chapters in the Routledge Companion to Sexuality and Colonialism and Colonialisms, Colonialities and Queer Politics: Rethinking Sexualities and Genders (Oxford University Press, forthcoming).
