Specialised in medieval manuscript studies and digital media studies, Suzette van Haaren’s academic work always looks to overarch the dividing lines between disciplines. She is interested in the changing function of (medieval) cultural objects in regards to the growing influence of digital technology. Her PhD thesis "The Digital Medieval Manuscript" focused on the effects of digitisation and the use of digital technologies for the reception and the handling of medieval manuscripts.
Her current work digs deeper into what it means to digitise medieval objects in the subproject Virtual Middle Ages (Virtuelles Mittelalter) within the Sonderforschungsbereich 1567 Virtuelle Lebenswelten at the Ruhr-Uni Bochum.
