    Gent van

Wouter van Gent is an Associate Professor in the Urban Geographies group at the University of Amsterdam and an Associate Editor for Tijdschrift voor Economische en Sociale Geografie (TESG). His research focuses on housing policy, urban inequality, segregation, and gentrification, with a critical lens on how policies shape spatial and social exclusion. A key area of his work interrogates the political and economic mechanisms driving neighbourhood change, particularly in post-industrial and post-colonial urban settings. In 2023, his book ‘Making the Middle-Class City; the Politics of gentrifying Amsterdam’ (authored with Willem Boterman) was published with Palgrave. More recent work also focuses on environmental inequalities, intergenerational transfers in housing, and geographies of sexuality. Beyond academia, he is an active contributor to public discourse on housing and urban policy in the Netherlands. His teaching includes courses on urban dynamics, geographies of inequality, and contemporary urban transformations.
