Dear Elisabeth

What you have done is amazing!

You made a lot of money fighting.

And I can imagine that you endured hard times.

For many people you were an example, But also, How should I put it, Less.

You showed that hard work is rewarded, But also punishes.

Many (black) people consider you an idol.

And everyone (including me!) admires your courage and perseverance!

Many people can learn a lot from you, From your mistakes and from your decisions.

Because of you, people have started thinking.

And that is important.

What you have done is going to change the future of many (black) people!

Thank you for all you have done!

Elisabeth Samson

Elisabeth Samson (1715 - 1771) was a free-born black woman. She acquired several plantations and hundreds of slaves and was one of the richest people in Suriname at the time of her death.
