Ode to Elisabeth Samson | Hard work was rewarded

By Pepe Weetink1 maart 2025

Dear Elisabeth

How clever the you as a dark woman got so high in the rank came and was worth more than a million guilders that would be almost 10 million euros now! Only why did you allow slavery or had you wanted to do it but became too young? And how did you get so much money? But I hope you also gave money to your brothers, sisters and your mother money. Fortunately there are more rich women now. And how nice the you had trade with the Netherlands, and did you know that people probably became rich because of you? Maybe you used slaves and people think that is bad you are still a great example for many people because you were rewarded by hard work. And I would be cool to be rich myself only I like field hockey too and I guess I don't have time to be a businessman then.

PS: when you write back write down all the cool things in a summary.
