Ode to Saskia van Uylenburgh | I’m touched by the ray of sun that shone on Saskia’s grave

I can’t paint like Rembrandt,

But the love of my life is also Saskia,

Saskia loving with August 38th

Made the historic walls here

Remember centuries of beautiful sand,

They, like Rembrandt, show how talent and skill can fill space and time.

I’m touched by the ray of sun that shone on Saskia’s grave,

I’ll keep that with me and try to shine some of that on my own Saskia.

About

Ode to Saskia van Uylenburgh by Stein Varjord

Every year on March 9 at 8:30 in the morning, a ray of sunlight falls on Saskia van Uylenburgh's grave in the Oude Kerk. In cooperation with the Amsterdam Museum, people could write odes during the Saskia breakfast to Saskia and other Amsterdam women who mean something to them.
