Dear Myrthe,

I am happy to write my ode to an Amsterdam woman to you. I met you a few years ago, but it feels like much longer to me. You came to work at your father's restaurant, a place where I had been working for a while. After your first shift, we decided to become friends.

We have been best friends ever since. This sounds very childish, but fortunately we both look back on it very positively. One of the many memories we have already made together.

I like to write my ode to you, because I associate you with my Amsterdam. For me it's hard to imagine it without you, with your pearl of a house, which was also a huge search. How incredibly nice and happy we are to hear that now, after one year, it has been extended indefinitely.

The housing crisis is something we all have to deal with, that we are all in. To experience this so closely, that you were evicted from your house and had to find something new within 30 days, was frightening.

Happy to write my tribute to you because I want to put you in the spotlight and give something back to you. You are always so involved, not only with me, but with everyone around you. You care about the smallest things, in a positive way.

Yet sometimes I worry that you forget yourself, or don't give yourself the best version of yourself. Because of your depressed feelings and negative self-image, I sometimes worry that you forget how amazing you are, how much people care about you too.

Happy to write my ode to you because you teach me so much, because you are tremendously free-thinking. I feel, and immediately felt, at ease with you. This is something you radiate and share with everyone.

Every day you make Amsterdam a little bit better place for people who are disadvantaged or feel disadvantaged. You are inclusive and I admire that enormously about you.

I like to write my ode to you because I think everyone deserves a Myrthe. Someone I can learn from, laugh with, cry with.

Myrthe, you are my Amsterdam

About

Ode from Wies to Myrthe.

I would like to add Myrthe because she was born and raised in Amsterdam. Committed to the city in her own personal way. She always tries to make people feel at home, despite things not always going well for Myrthe. This I admire, I want to give her a stage and introduce people to such a great friend.
