    Visions of the future

How do Amsterdam children and adolescents envision the future? Under the name Imagine the Future: Next Generation, the Amsterdam Museum presents the future visions of the youngest generation of Amsterdammers. Dreaming, thinking and acting together. In projects with IMC Weekendschool, Mediacollege Amsterdam and Culturele INTROWEEK MBO, hundreds of children and adolescents share their own visions of the future of the city.

The results of the project Imagine the Future: Next Generation will be on display at the Amsterdam Museum from 11 July as part of the exhibition Refresh Amsterdam #3: Imagine the Future

    IMC Weekendschool

How do you see yourself in 25 years? What will people know about your childhood? How will you move through Amsterdam then - perhaps on flying fatbikes? Inspired by the theme Imagine the Future, IMC Weekendschool realised a Fine Art project together with the Royal Talens Foundation. 75 children aged 10 and 11 were encouraged to think about their own future. They created works of art in collaboration with four contemporary visual artists.

Children from the Amsterdam-Noord district worked with Baukje Duin (1971) on self-portraits and handprints, as a gift for the future. In collaboration with Anouschka Boswijk (1992), an artwork about a possible “vehicle soup” was created. In Amsterdam-Zuidoost, children painted a tablecloth with Tom van Veen (1995) using materials from the neighbourhood. In the future, this rug will tell about life today. A group of classmates designed group portraits of themselves 25 years from now with Carmen Schabracq (1988).

Let yourself be drawn into the imagination of children and discover how they see the future.

    Project MUSE

Project Muse is a collaboration between the Amsterdam Museum and Mediacollege Amsterdam. No fewer than 125 intermediate vocational students from the courses Spatial Designer, Game Artist and Software Developer designed a series of interactive installations. Each student chose a specific location in Amsterdam and a future scenario as a starting point: what will that place look like in five, ten or even fifty years' time? In the exhibition Refresh Amsterdam #3: Imagine the Future, we present a selection of this series of installations. See and experience how young makers reflect on the future of Amsterdam.

    Culturele INTROWEEK MBO

From Monday 25 August to Friday 5 September, the Amsterdam Museum will open its doors to MBO students during the Cultural INTROWEEK MBO. During this week, students will get to know the city's rich cultural offerings and each other. Part of this programme is an interactive workshop specially developed for the exhibition Refresh Amsterdam #3: Imagine the Future.

Under the guidance of makers Jaer Vogelland and Naema Abdi, MBO students shape their vision of the future during a workshop. Each group of students contributes to a large, collective collage that remains on display throughout the exhibition.
