The Soul of the Netherlands: Mother Power in Images and Law

Motivation:
Because women – and mothers in particular – have remained invisible in our legislation, museums, and history books for centuries. My wish is that the Netherlands recognizes that the female body is not only the beginning of every human life, but also the foundation of our cultural heritage. By legally recognizing mothers as independent administrators of their bodies and as bearers of heritage, we are building a just society in which care, labor, history, and the right to exist are fairly distributed. My motivation stems from personal experience, artistic practice, and a deep desire to make the invisible visible—literally, through needle and thread, and symbolically, in our laws and culture.
