Future wishes is part of Refresh Amsterdam #3 - Imagine the future
What will the Netherlands look like in the future? What needs to change? What could be improved?

Refresh Amsterdam #3 - Imagine the future
Refresh Amsterdam is a biennial exhibition in which artists from different perspectives and disciplines show work on current themes that are relevant to the city and society at that moment.
For this third edition, which focuses on the future of the city, not only will 16 artists contribute, but the general public will also have the opportunity to share their vision of the future and become part of the exhibition. Refresh Amsterdam #3: Imagine the Future will be on display from July 11 to November 30 at the Amsterdam Museum on the Amstel.
The exhibition and this Open Call are made possible in part by the VriendenLoterij. The Amsterdam Museum receives structural support from its main benefactor, the Municipality of Amsterdam, and its main partner in education, the ELJA Foundation.
Open Call - Imagine the Future
In honor of Amsterdam's 750th anniversary, the Amsterdam Museum invited everyone to share their vision for the future of the Netherlands. For the first time, the public also became co-creators of Refresh Amsterdam.
From April 1 to May 1, 2025, anyone in the Netherlands could submit a wish for the future in any form: from paintings to videos, poems to sculptures. More than a hundred people participated.
All wishes have been included in the museum's digital collection and can be viewed on this website. A professional jury selected 20 inspiring entries for the exhibition Refresh Amsterdam #3: Imagine the Future. One of them will win the audience award of €750 — and you can vote!
In the Open Call video, presenter and museum friend Robert ten Brink called on the whole of the Netherlands to take part.

Into the country
From March 24 to June 2, a team from the Amsterdam Museum traveled throughout the country to collect wishes for the future. In thirteen cities—from Groningen to Maastricht and from Middelburg to Amsterdam—museum staff talked to people on the street.
They visited locations such as the Albert Cuyp market in Amsterdam, the Vrijthof in Maastricht, the Neude in Utrecht, the Markt in Den Bosch, and the Koopmansplein in Assen.
The responses were enthusiastic. People shared their ideas, dreams, and concerns about the future of the Netherlands. Some came up with grand social visions, others with personal wishes or surprisingly creative perspectives. The central question was: What do you wish for the future of the Netherlands?
These encounters provided a rich and diverse picture of how people across the country view the future.
