Celebrate our diversity!

From our Western countries, we show a lot of interest in countries with non-Western cultures. Conversely, there is a great deal of enthusiasm in many countries to come and live here. Unfortunately, when we live together in one society, differences in lifestyle and culture are often emphasized in a negative way, often by politicians (in any country), who fuel mistrust towards others, causing tension and even provoking violence. In response, we often hear talk of integration, which supposedly means that ‘they should be more like us’. I would argue that we should emphasize our backgrounds, continue to showcase the richness of cultural differences, and celebrate diversity. Based on respect for each other and our democratic values, this will result in a wonderfully colorful society. Unity in diversity!
