Location City Orphanage

Originally a monastery and a retirement home for olderly men, this building complex has housed the city orphanage (Burgerweeshuis) from 1580. The layered history of building modifications and expansions, which continues to today, can be read from its different facades. It has been the home of the Amsterdam Museum since 1975, and the whole complex will be sustainably renovated in the next few years.
